So (Dicky Cheung), the only son of a landlord in the countryside, had had a quarrel with a retired eunuch and thus escaped to the city with his fiancee, Kwai (Lam Yi Kei), and his fellowman, Wing (Chiang Chi Kwong). They met Hung and again they started a dispute. In the end, they made peace and So even asked to become Hung’s student. However, Hung refused. So, nevertheless, followed Hung and made friends with his students, Gai (Ho Po Sang), Chi (Andy Hui), Kwan (Tsang Wai Kuen) and Hing (Yip Yuk Ping). Whilst So was having fun at Hung’s school, “Po Chi Lam”, he also started a complicated relationship with Yan (Winnie Lau), who had returned from abroad, and Chu (Gigi Lai), a young prostitute. Then, he had row with Bo (Bobby Au Yeung) who set him up and accused him of wrong doings which also involved Hung and his students. The eunuch with whom So had quarreled also appeared to get his revenge. What could So do?

The dead man's relatives are angry and goes to LAM WAI, asking for compensation. WAI has to pay for the accident. KWAI has been appointed to be SO's fiancee when he is young so as to take care of him. They have the feeling of mother and son but in fact they should be couples. When KWAI knows that WAI is going to get another wife for SO, she is not angry. Instead she is happy to have one to share the duty with her. LAM BAI WING is a butcher and an orphan. I-le is always being cheated and Tram time to time, SO helps him and the social status forms no gap between them. SO wants to have a look of his new wife and he finds that she is ugly. Therefore he refuses the marriage. WAI is angry. SO always dream of going to the urban area but WAI does not allow him to leave……

SO, KWAI, WING arrive at the town and they are attracted by the new things. MUI CHU gets into a jewellery shop and steals a jade accessary. She is discovered and runs away. On her way, she meets SO and WAI takes that accessary to the hotel. MUI CHU has her own story. She was sold by his father'" who wanted to raise money to go overseas to find gold. CHU believes that her father will return one day. SO goes to a casino and he wins a big fortune. He leads an extravagant life and this makes KAM DOR BO aware. BO approaches SO so as to get money from him. BO holds a feast for SO and CHU is employed to serve them. SO and MUI CHU are embarrassed. CHU warns SO as BO does not have good intension. In the chaos, LEUNG FUEN comes and saves them. SO has heard the fame of "Po Chi Lam" and follows FUEN to visit WONG FEI HUNG. CHAN CHI and the others find someone to impersonate HUNG to trick them……

SO knows that WING admires CHU and he tries to embridge them. CHU mistakenly thinks that SO loves her and she is excited. CHU knows that her father does not turn up before the dead line, she will become a prostitute. She cries and SO is told about her story. He pretends that he is ill so as to get money from his family to help CHU. KAM YAT FAT wants to get Guangzhou to be his concession. Thus he comes with BO to win fame there. He invites a Japanese fighter to challenge HUNG but HUNG wins the fight. SO meets CHU YAN YAN and is attracted by her beauty. He follows her and overhears that she is annoyed with an appointed marriage. He tricks the others so that the marriage is cancelled. YI thinks that YAN is filthy and slaps her. SO protects her and he front teeth break.
