To Catch the Uncatchable

While investigating a sexual assault, police constable MOK TSOK-TUNG is mistaken by LI WAI-WAI, an insurance broker, for the sexual offender. Along their way to catch the suspect, TUNG has an asthma attack. Basing on the clothing of the sexual offender, TUNG has arrested four suspects. His supervisor SZE KO-BUT suggests conducting a crime scene investigation, through which TUNG discovers that the victim is not WAI but somebody else. He has then devised a plan to make the sexual offender turn himself in. WAI’s supervisor SIMON LEUNG invites her to his home after work so that they can have better preparation for the meeting with a significant client on the following day. This has puzzled WAI beyond measure. WAI goes to buy some beauty products at a cosmetic shop, where she and other customers are suspected of stealing an item. Coincidentally, TUNG is sent to investigate the case.… ...

Though all witnesses and evidence available have put WAI in a very unfavorable situation, TUNG believes she is innocent and so returns to the site for further investigation. To his surprise, the area, once sealed off, is opened again and the whole place has been tidied up. TUNG has no choice but to purchase all the rubbish collected from SIMON’s home. TUNG brings WAI to his home, and starts to carry out an investigation into her three female clients referred by SIMON. Although TUNG manages to make the ladies reveal their secret relationships with SIMON, WAI who is considered to have a clear motive for the murder is still the most suspicious. She has therefore become very downcast. TUNG sneaks into the hotel apartment where SIMON rented, where he meets the hotel manager KENNY who seems so eager to greet him. This has surprised TUNG greatly.… ...

In order to collect evidence, TUNG decides to rent the apartment where SIMON was killed. He finds out that KENNY has installed a CCTV camera inside the apartment, just as he expects. TUNG, who wonders why KENNY is so determined to conceal the identity of the real murderer, compels him to reveal the truth. After her release from police custody, WAI is finally able to resume duty. But disappointingly things do not go very well for her – her colleagues keep gossiping about her, her supervisor unreasonably expects her to make greater profits, and the worst of all, all of her staff deliberately try to please her bitter rival ROMEO hoping for a greater chance of being able to transfer to his team. This has infuriated WAI beyond measure. BUT, who is resolved to fight prostitution, appoints TUNG to disguise himself as a customer looking for a hooker.… ...
