Wives and Daughters is a 1999 four part BBC serial adapted from the novel Wives and Daughters: An Everyday Story by Victorian author Elizabeth Gaskell. It focuses on Molly Gibson, the daughter of the town doctor, and the changes that occur in her life after her widowed father chooses to remarry. The union brings into her once-quiet life an ever-proper stepmother and flirtatious stepsister, Cynthia, while a friendship with the local squire brings about an unexpected romance.

1. Episode 1
A protective Dr Gibson sends Molly away from a pupil who has confessed his love for her. At the Hamley's - Molly's new residence - she falls for the eldest son, Osborne, and then trouble erupts. Molly also has to come to terms with her father's plans to remarry.

2. Episode 2
Osborne's banishment from Hamley Hall triggers Mrs Hamley's terminal decline.

3. Episode 3
Horrified that his secret is out, Osborne swears Molly to secrecy. While Roger urges Osborne to tell their father the truth. After the Easter Charity Ball, Cynthia falls into a decline.
